General Knowledge, Care and Cleaning
Please keep in mind that these rugs are made by hand. Though some machinery may be used, they are NOT factory-made, therefore minor imperfections and defects will occur.
How are they made?
Handmade tufted rugs start with a stretched primary cloth made of either monks cloth or burlap fabric. Acrylic yarn is then woven in-between the fibers of primary cloth with assistance of a tufting gun. After the design has been completed, the yarn and primary cloth are sealed with a carpet adhesive. After being left the dry, the rug is backed with a secondary cloth, usually with felt and/or a nonslip, backing.
Fluffing and Sprouting
A newly made rug will often times shed excess fibers in the beginning stages, this is known as fluff. Fluffing is normal and will gradually disappear over time. Sprouting is another natural thing that may occur with a newly made rug but also over time. Sprouting is when there are fibers that protrude above other areas of the rug. When this is occurs it is best to simply cut the fiber rather than pulling. It's also good practice to ensure your vacuum is not on the highest setting when vacuuming (if you have the option), to ensure it does not pull at fibers to abrasively.
Movement
It is important to find a good place for your rug and there several factors this. Factors can include, fading, crushing, and uneven wear and tear. Daily and direct sun exposure will cause the rug to fade in color, to mitigate this, it's recommend to periodically rotate the rug so it fades evenly or avoid direct prolonged exposure. Crushing can occur when furniture is left on the rug for extended periods of time which will leave indentations in the rug. To mitigate this it is recommended to periodically move furniture so weight is not concentrated on one area. General wear and tear is a natural occurrence, but to reduce and slow down its process, keeping the rug in low traffic areas is ideal while also minimizing shoe walking as much as possible.
Cleaning
For dry stains, carefully sweep, scrape or vacuum away dirt and stains.
For wet stains use a dye-free cloth or paper towel, water and/or a gentle, bleach free cleanser. Start by absorbing as much liquid as possible with cloth or paper towel. Spray a cleanser or lukewarm water (being careful not to drench area). Blot area as much as possible until it returns to its original color.
Regular sweeping with a broom, lint rolling or light vacuuming to keep your rug looking best is recommended.
Do not machine wash!
